For our second task we was told to do case studies of real music magazines. we were told to find one specific genre of music to work with for our magazine project. I chose to base my project on hip-hop music.

I had carried out various research on this, I looked at different types of hip-hop music magazines how the layout is the different types of shots used, and how they present the cover star.

In the front cover that I had chosen you can see that a masthead is included which is the name of the magazine 'XXL' and its in bright colours of red and white. At the top of the magazine there's a short strapline of  ' HIP-HOP ON A HIGHER LEVEL' this comes out as a sort of strapline for the magazine XXL. The magazine chose T.I to be their cover star and had taken a close up shot of him, the star does not smile in this picture but he is portrayed as someone that serious and knows what they are doing. He has a  direct mode of adress because he is looking straight at you.There's also a barcode at the corner of the magazine,a price is also usually put close o the barcode, the price of the magazine will depend on the audience who buy the magazine on a day to day basis. This shows that XXL care about there readers because they are putting a suitable price that will mean there readers can buy the magazine without it affecting them. There's also a main cover line and this is where they have qouted words that T.I has said himself.
